Welcome to Erzurum, the peak of Anatolia, to join the 25th Winter Universiade. We take great pride in hosting the world’s finest student-athletes and all our distinguished guests who have come to our city for this event. I would like to thank you all for your participation in this great gathering.
During your stay in Erzurum, you will be meeting with one another and developing friendships. This gathering of the diverse cultures of the world will surely enrich our city and make an unforgettable contribution to our history that dates back to thousands of years ago.
During your visit, you will have the chance to get to know our city and its surroundings, as well as the people of Erzurum. Throughout history, Erzurum has been home to many civilizations. You will be able to go sightseeing among the traces of this unique historical wealth. You will have a chance to see the Double Minaret Madrasa (Çifte Minareli Medrese), one of the first Universities in Anatolia which was built in the middle of the 13th century, which is also depicted in the logo of the Erzurum Winter Universiade, the Erzurum Castle, built during the reign of Theodosius, the Roman Empire, and Rüstem Pasha Bazaar, one of the most beautiful examples of the Ottoman Architecture. You can also visit numerous mosques and churches which have survived and been shared in peace and tolerance through centuries in Erzurum. These works of art are only a part of the rich historical and cultural mosaic of Erzurum.
Erzurum, where the world youth will come together for sports and friendship, is surrounded by plains almost as high as 2000 meters and mountains higher than 3000 meters. Hence, the slogan of the 25th Winter Universiade being “Let’s meet at the Anatolian peak!” is very meaningful. It is a privilege for Erzurum to prepare an international sports organization at the peak of Anatolia for the young people who will shape the world of tomorrow. We are aware of the responsibility to help fulfill your hopes, dreams and expectations during your stay here, from the first training to the last competition.
We hope the days you spend in Erzurum will exceed your expectations, and the unforgettable memories of friendship, love and peace formed here will be conveyed to the rest of the world.
Best warmest regards,
Bekir KORKMAZ
