21.10.2011-ERZURUM 2011 MEDIA - 25th Winter Universiade Athletes Village has been opened with a ceremony. Governor of Erzurum Sebahattin Öztürk, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak, Erzurum Technical University Rector Prof.Dr. Muammer Yaylalı, General Coordinator of 2011 Bekir Korkmaz, FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond, President of Athletes Village (Yurt-Kur Region Director) Yahya Pasinlioğlu, FISU directors, department managers, volunteers and the citizens attended to the opening ceremony of the Athletes Village, which has been built in Yurt-kur Campus of Atatürk University for the dwelling of the athletes participating in the winter games.
WE ARE WAITING FOR THE GUESTS
Governor of Erzurum Sebahattin Öztürk, after the welcoming speech of President of Athletes Village Yahya Pasinlioğlu, stated that Erzurum is ready for hosting such an important organization for Turkey and said that they are waiting for the guests after all. Öztürk, who stated that Erzurum is a city of history that has hosted so many civilizations and with an altitude of 1890, Erzurum is a city where every kind of winter sports can be held within the scope of the facilities that have been built for these games. Governor Öztürk firstly thanked PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the State Minister Responsible for Sports Faruk Nafiz Özak, Minister of Health Recep Akdağ and to the other authorized directors.Turkish flag has been raised with the National Anthem after the speeches.
ATHLETES BECOME HONORARY CULTURAL AMBASSADOR
Secretary General of FISU Eric Saintrond, who made his speech later greeted the participants. Eric Saintrond, stated that there is such a short time left for the games.With the participation of 58 countries, it will be a record. Saintrond, stated that everything is going on quite well,“We believed in you. Today we saw that we have taken such a right decision.” Saintrond, stated that they will be so happy for the students who will be able to reside at Athletes Village after the games, said “Your hospitality, generosity, unique culture heritage and the warm relations that you will show during the games will make all the participants honorary cultural ambassadors. We believed in Turkey and Erzurum. Everything is going to be perfect. Thank you Turkey, Thank you Erzurum” FISU flag has been raised with FISU Anthem after the speech of Saintrond.
FACILITIES HAVE BEEN OPENED FOR THE VISIT OF CITIZENS
President of Athletes Village Yahya Pasinlioğlu, stated that 3 thousand people will accomodate in the Athletes Village, which is consisted of 11 blocks, and every kind of details have been considered for the comfort of the guests. Yahya Pasinoğlu presented a plaquet to FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond. After the opening ceremony, participants made observation in different areas of the Athletes Village. Moreover, with the application of Open Day that was held on yesterday, all the facilities that are in the scope of the 2011 Winter Universiade have been opened to the visit of the citizens.
