Atatürk University

The foundation of the Ataturk University was a dream of the Turkish Republic coming true. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk had given the instruction for launching the studies concerning the matter by pointing out to the necessity of founding a largescale university in the Eastern Anatolia in the speech he made at the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on the 1st of Nowember,1937. After the death of Ataturk these studies were abandoned for 12 years and were reinitiated in 1950 leading to the suggestion made by a commission to build this university of Eastern Anatolia in Erzurum. It was decided that the name of this university is to be the Ataturk University with the Law numbered 6373 passed in 1954.

Today the Ataturk University provides education to more than 40 thousand students with its 17 faculties, 5 colleges,15 vocational high schools, 6 institutes and 16 research centers.
